One Project A Month - October - Autumn Bag

Well it's taken most of the weekend but I finally finished it, applique leaves, a bag for Autumn.

It's lined and it's been unpicked twice as I'm not very good at sewing linings into bags but I've even managed to make two inside pockets as well.

I've used a lovely script design fabric which is good quality cotton fabric leftover from when I made some bathroom curtains years ago but I think it looks okay and the applique leaf designs are the same on both sides of the bag.

I have enough cream fabric left to make another leaf design bags but with a different lining and some red, green,yellow and brown velvet fabric for the leaves.

I've also made another shopping bag, this one is made from the lovely rose print fabric and is also on the website.

(If anyone is wondering if I'm selling Morsbags, to quote from the Morsbag forum "without a label it is a bag not a Morsbag".

Custom Order: Oh I nearly forgot I was asked to make a Rosali hearts peg bag the other week to match the carrier bag holder they already have which I made for them ages ago, so that was sent last week, so I'll count that as a finish for One Project A Month for September.

The peg bag order is the reason I've still got the purple rag quilt to finish yet, so that's me busy for the next few weeks, just 128 squares to sew together.

One Project A Month - July

For christmas last year I made my mum a rag quilt...... and there was some fabric left over, so I've finally got around to making something to use up all the fabric, I wanted to make something but wasn't sure what as it was mostly strips of fabric left...... so I've made a peg bag and a matching carrier bag holder, I think it's one of my best yet.

One Project A Month - January 2010

Well here are my three finishes for January, yes, three, I've finished the wool braided rug quicker than I thought I would thanks to being stuck in with all the snow we've had. I didn't think I was going to finish this till February or even March! The wool scraps are leftover from making mine and my Mum's rag quilts, cut into 2" inch strips then stitched together to make longer lengths, stitched into half inch strips then plaited together and it's only taken me about three weeks to make the rug, the last time I made one it took me six weeks and this one is slightly larger.

The peg bag I've made as a present, using leftover scraps of 'Aster' fabric from making some seat covers last year and curtain lining to say 'thank you' for something someone gave my son for his flat, her hubby reads my blog but I don't think he'll say anything until after it arrives.

The cushion cover was an old white pillowcase which is more off-white now and the flower embroidery is an old table cloth which had a few small holes in it.

so all three items are made by recycling old/leftover fabrics and I think they all look great!

This weeks sewing.....

Well I've just made a dent in my fabric stash this week, I've just made nine Morsbags towards the Pontefract Festival in July. I've recycled two pillowcases and a 10p valance ( green patchwork) I bought last year from Dunelm.

and today I've just finished this month's Peg Bag, which also includes a matching carrier bag holder. This lovely set is now on sale in my Folksy shop.

This month's pegbag, which I have just finished and is now on sale in my Folksy shop.

I have also making some progress on the patchwork duvet cover I am making, approx 330 squares to cut out and sew together.

The pile on the right is the curtains I bought for 50p from ebay.

I was inspired by a patchwork pattern called 'Just Charming' from Bunny Hill Designs. The patchwork sizes on the pattern are 1 and 3/4 inches so I thought it would be one of those projects I would start and not finish so my size patches are 5" squares.

All the lilac heart shapes are hand-stitched onto the white squares using blanket stitch, all 100 of them, just 90 to go!

I tried sewing them by machine but the material was just puckering and didn't look right.

I am also making another Morsbag ( no 32), I have bought the fabric specially as it is for a birthday present as they like music, there is just enough to make two fabric flowers as a finishing touch to the bag.

I have also been asked to make some kitchen seat covers, they've let me choose the fabric, the spec was "colourful" so I've chosen this fabric called 'Aster', so I hope they like it!

I bought it from Sew Creative , there is just so much gorgeous fabric on sale and I had a telephone call from the owner Sylvia to confirm my order which arrived the next day! I would recommend this website and if you live in Norfolk, I would recommend a visit, me and my mum visited the shop last year on holiday - March 2008 , lovely fabrics and kits, a perfect sewing shop.

Garden and pegbag

I finished this the other day, this month's pegbag....I think the print fabric is Cath Kidston but not sure, it's amazing what you can create from a fat quarter of fabric. The blanket stitch around the edges of the print fabric took ages by hand but I think it looks very nice, it seems to finish it off.

The garden is full of spring flowers - this is the view from the kitchen window...

and a close up of the Magnolia, which seems to have different flowers (hubby looked it up in a book and we have the shrub version) the tree version has different flowers, which seems to be the one most people have.you can just see our pot rabbit peeping out of the long grass! Also some photo's of daffodils and wallflowers we left in the garden which hubby grew from seed and this is the second year they have flowered.

24th October 2008

Well I've just finished Morsbag No 9 , this is going to be a christmas pressie for my mum. The beige fabric is an old pillowcase and the new fabric is Cho Cho Sampomichi, from a pack of five fat quarters, which I bought when we on holiday in Norfolk earlier this year.

I've also finished this sewing machine cover, applique hearts of Rosali fabric, floral, spot and gingham, finished off with flower buttons, generously sized at H = 13" inches, W = 16" inches and D = 6" inches, this is for sale in my Etsy shop prices at £10 plus P+P. (sold - thank you)

Current WIP are :

• back of the denim button peg bag
• 4 cushion covers and two pillowcases from the Dorma fabric
• and the Button berry bag from ages ago, I just can't seem to get motivated to finish that, I think it's because it means sewing small pieces of fabric and it's a new pattern.


• Morsbag no 10 and 11 and .......

....well I'm off to try and finish something, so I hope you all have a good weekend.

Update: Finished the back of the button peg bag .....and also made Morsbag No 10, the fabric is also from the fat quarter pack and there are also three applique flowers on the other side.

and Morsbag No 11, ( three hearts) I think these fabric bags are much nicer than boring plastic bags and you can wash them!

Pegbags...

A peg bag and padded heart, made entirely from recycled scraps of fabric, ribbon and button!

Another peg bag , again using recyled fabric, cream curtain lining, scraps of fabric for the hearts and odd buttons.
